FIRST ALERT ACTION DAY Today due to severe storms, tornado threat

(KFVS) - We are issuing a First Alert Action Day for today because of the threat for severe storms, including tornadoes, hail, local heavy rainfall and high winds.

Most of the Heartland has been upgraded to a threat level 4 out of 5 for severe weather.

Timing for storms looks to be between 1 p.m. and 10 p.m.

Baseball size hail and wind gusts up to 70 mph is possible.

Rainfall amounts should be less than last week’s system.

A few schools are dismissing early because of the threat for severe storms. The list can be found here.

Today’s forecast

Ahead of the severe weather threat, today will be very windy with a few thunderstorms.

Winds will gust to near 50 mph at times.

We’ll get a break from storms over the weekend as dry and cooler air moves in from the northwest.

Saturday is looking cool and breezy.

Afternoon highs will be in the 50s northeast to mid 60s southwest, but winds will make it feel chilly.

Sunday should be a bit nicer with sunny skies and highs in the mid 60s.

The middle of next week is looking warm and humid with a chance of scattered strong storms Tuesday into Wednesday.

The end of next week is looking cooler.
