Mt. Vernon man charged with murder in connection with Shawneetown shooting
SHAWNEETOWN, Ill. (KFVS) - A Mount Vernon man was arrested and charged in connection with a Shawneetown murder.
Demetrius T. Walker, 20, was charged with first-degree murder.
According to Illinois State Police, his arrest comes after a month-long investigation into the shooting death of 45-year-old Nathan Dobbs.
Dobbs was found dead next to the roadway in the 100 block of McClernand Avenue in Shawneetown around 7 p.m. on Wednesday, February 15.

Investigators developed Walker as a person of interest. He was taken into custody on March 10 by the Mt. Vernon Police Department on an unrelated arrest warrant.
On March 12, the Gallatin County State’s Attorney approved a first-degree murder charge against Walker while he was awaiting bond on the unrelated warrant.
Walker remains in custody at the Jefferson County Jail, awaiting extradition.
His bond was set at $5 million, with 10 percent to apply.
The investigation is ongoing.
