KENNETT, Mo. (KFVS) - A nurse at Kennett High School is accused of having a sexual relationship with a 15-year-old student.

Candice Johnson, 26, of Kennett, was charged with two counts of statutory rape and two counts of sexual contact with a student.

According to court documents, Kennett police started their investigation on Monday, January 30 after learning a school nurse was having a sexual relationship with a student. This was several days after the Kennett High School principal and assistant principal talked to Johnson and the 15 year old, along with other students and witnesses.

During an interview, the victim told investigators that the sexual relationship started around October 2022 when he went to her office for medication.

Johnson is scheduled to make her first court appearance on Feb. 7.

In January, high school spanish teacher Lindsey Marshall was charged with sexual contact involving a student.

Marshall will be back in court in March.

When asked about Johnson and Marshall, Kennett Schools Superintendent Chris Wilson released the following statement via email:

“The District was recently notified that a non-certificated employee has been arrested and charged for alleged unlawful involvement with a high school student. At this time, there has been no finding that the employee is guilty of the charges. However, the employee has been placed on a leave of absence and will have no contact with District students. As with all individuals hired by the District, the employee had a clear criminal background and child abuse check and completed all relevant training. The District places the safety and education of its students as the highest priority.”
