CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (KFVS) - Fort Osage beat the Cape Central Tigers 56-20 in the Class 5 State Semifinals on Saturday, November 26.
The season-ending game came after an eight-game winning streak for the Tigers.
Cape Central received the opening kickoff and started the game on a high note. Sophomore running back Za’Aire Thomas went over 50 yards on the Tigers’ first play from scrimmage into Indians territory. However, the drive stalled and Fort Osage took over.
Ryver Peppers found the end zone for the Indians on their ensuing drive and put Fort Osage on the board first, 7-0.
Once again Cape Central ignited their home crowd on the first play of their next drive. Morgan Diamond dropped back to pass and connected with Marshon Edwards over the middle on a 64-yard touchdown. The PAT was blocked, keeping Fort Osage in front 7-6.
Following a defensive stop, Cape Central’s offense went back to work. On another great throw from Diamond, Marquel Murray made a leaping catch in the back of the end zone to give the Tigers their first lead of the game, 13-7.
From that point forward Fort Osage took the reigns en route to 49 unanswered points. A combination of offensive, defense and special teams contributed to the scoring.
Cape Central scored one final time in the closing minutes on a reverse to senior Clayton McClard, but it was not enough.
The Tigers’ finish their season at a mark of 10-4, and one of the top four teams in Class 5.
