MUHLENBERG CO., Ky. (WFIE) - Officials with the Glasgow/Barren County Emergency Management said a helicopter that went missing late Saturday night was found on Monday.

Officials reported that the helicopter had crashed and was found around 3 p.m. near Highway 70 and Park Boundry Road.

Dispatch confirmed the aircraft crashed into trees, and the pilot was found inside.

Marcus Thurman with GBCEM identified the pilot as David Stone. He died due to the accident.

Officials said the last contact they had with the aircraft was late Saturday night in Ohio County. Stone was believed to be flying low to avoid the storms.

Hunters in the area told officials they saw the helicopter flying in a southeasterly direction.

The National Park Service is now taking over the investigation because the helicopter crashed inside Mammoth Cave National Park.

The National Traffic Safety Board will also help in the investigation.
