CARBONDALE, Ill. (KFVS) - Route 13 was temporarily closed in downtown Carbondale due to a stopped train.

On Friday, May 27, police identified the pedestrian as 22-year-old Michael L. Sykes-Branch, of Carbondale, died in a St. Louis-area hospital.

They said at this time in the investigation, they do not believe foul play was involved.

The death investigation is ongoing.

According to police, they responded to the railroad tracks between the 400 block of North Washington Street and North Illinois Avenue around 11:29 a.m on Tuesday, May 24 for a report of a pedestrian hit by a train.

Officers immediately began medical treatment until an ambulance arrived. The pedestrian was taken to an area hospital and then transferred to a St. Louis hospital for treatment of life-threatening injuries.

Police say the crash caused all railroad crossings to be closed for about an hour because of the train blocking the crossings.
