KENTUCKY (WFIE) - Three horse statues, inspired by the three counties impacted by December’s tornadoes, were unveiled Friday in Frankfort
Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear joined members of the arts community to unveil pieces from LexArts’ 2022 Horse Mania public art project.
Students from Hopkins, Warren and Graves counties paired up with Lexington artists to create a vision.
They got together for a weekend in Lexington to collaborate on the design, and paint the fiberglass statues.
The students say it was an emotional experience.
The horses will be on display in the towns they represent. They’ll then go to Lexington ahead of the Breeder’s cup. The artist who worked on the Bowling Green horse says this art project was his way of giving back.
“We want to be able to donate money but as you know artists typically don’t have a lot of spare funds so this was a great chance for me to put 100% of my effort into something that could potentially give back to them,” Bowling Green artist, Lennon Michael Ski says.
The painted horses will be auctioned off at Keeneland after being on display across Lexington for a few months.
