Heartland cyber security company gives tips to protect yourself from cyber attacks
CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (KFVS) - As Russia attacks Ukraine, the U.S. braces for a possible cyber-attack.
Here in the Heartland, one cyber security company wants you to stay alert.
“Well, I think it’s always good to listen to the news. So that you can stay abreast to what is happening,” said Broadtek, sales director Matt Hopkin.
“Something that’s happened to a few people might not necessarily happen to you and have a heightened awareness of a particular thing that’s happened. Like the DNS attachment that I mentioned last week,” he continued.
Which was an attack on such large companies like Google and Amazon, where their servers were down for several hours.
“I don’t know that we know exactly where that came from, but it did impact some things like cloud services and a few other items,” he said.
He said anyone operating an electronic device should be vigilant against ransomware attacks.
“We always preach, layered protection. So, you want to have A, try not to go to bad sites. B, always have your computer up to date and patched. With the latest security patches. You always want to have a good antivirus.”
All which will protect your electronic components from viruses.
“With so many things over there that we have to deal with, I think our chances are somewhat less. But certainly, that can change and no matter what we should always take good precautions on what we’re doing with our own cyber security.”
According to Reuters, some of the biggest cyber attacks in recent years have been linked to suspected Russian hackers.
