CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (KFVS) - A chilly but dry Sunday to round out the weekend in fact this will be one of the coldest days of the month so far and possibly the coldest day of the remainder of 2021.

A major forecast challenge will be stubborn with low clouds moving through from north to south this morning.

So it may be a cloudy, chilly morning with some clearing by afternoon.

Brian Alworth said highs will only be about 40 to 45 but winds will be lighter.

Tonight will be clear, quiet, cold and frosty.

Lots of moisture means heavy frost is likely tomorrow morning, but then it will be a bit warmer.

The upcoming week continues to look mainly dry and uneventful with the only significant weather system now expected to stay well south.

Toward the end of the week, we’ll get back into an unusually mild pattern as our flow becomes southwesterly.

This means it will be warmer but quite breezy or windy especially Friday and Saturday.

Highs Friday and Saturday look to be mainly in the 60s, with lows in the 40s.

The Christmas travel period Fri thru Sun is looking breezy and mild, with partly cloudy skies.

Some models are now showing a slight chance of rain showers Friday and Saturday.

Brian Alworth said the only significant travel issue locally may be some strong southwest winds.
