CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (KFVS) - The special election in Missouri is Tuesday, November 2.

The polls closed at 7 p.m.

Check the results tonight here.

One question many voters in the Heartland was asked was to decide: internet sales tax.

The question appeared on ballots in Cape Girardeau, Jackson and Delta in Cape Girardeau County.

Voters in Scott City and Butler County was also asked about the internet sales tax.

Supporters of the tax argued it would level the playing field for local, brick and mortar stores and raise revenue that currently is not being collected.

Missouri cleared the way for communities to start collecting the tax with legislation signed by Governor Mike Parson earlier this year.

Illinois did not have a November election this year.

Kentucky did not have a statewide primary or general election on Tuesday, only special elections to choose three new members of the General Assembly.
