KYTC plans to convert the U.S. 51/U.S. 60 intersection in Wickliffe to a four-way stop starting at 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday, March 8. The intersection is just over 4 miles south of the U.S. 51 Ohio River “Cairo” Bridge connecting Kentucky and Illinois. It includes Greene Street and North 4th Street in Wickliffe. Currently, the north and south legs of the intersection are through streets with a stop required for the east and west legs of the intersection. Starting at 8:30 a.m., a KYTC signal crew will change the flashing yellow beacon at the intersection to a red beacon and add four-way stop signs on all approaches. Drivers should be aware of bucket trucks and signal personnel working in and around the intersection. According to KYTC, the city of Wickliffe requested the change to help reduce backups for southbound U.S. 51 traffic coming off the Cairo Bridge during peak travel periods. It will also help make sure traffic going through downtown Wickliffe is slowed to meet the 25 mile-per-hour speed limit.
KYTC and the Ballard County Road Department closed a bridge on Fraser Road on Tuesday, Feb. 14 after an inspection found issues with the substructure. This is the Buckler Creek Branch Bridge at mile point 1.238 on CR 1116. The bridge had previously been posted with a 9-ton load limit. It will remain closed until further notice. KYTC engineers will help the county road department with an analysis of the bridge structure to determine if the bridge can be repaired or needs to be replaced.

This is along KY 307 between KY 1173 and KY 408 south of the Kirbyton community. KYTC says motorists should be alert for one lane traffic with alternating flow controlled by an automated signal and flaggers may be present to assist trucks working on the area. There may be some delays.
Fulton/Graves/Hickman Counties
Construction activities to allow I-69 to be extended from Mayfield to Fulton will begin ramping up from the Kentucky-Tennessee state line at Fulton to the end of I-69 at the 21-mile marker near the U.S. 45/KY 80-Bypass at the southwest edge of Mayfield. KYTC says there will be intermittent work zone lane restrictions at various locations. There will be a 55 mph work zone speed limit with an enhanced police presence in areas where construction crews are present. The two-year project includes converting the KY 339 Wingo Exit 14 interchange from a cloverleaf designed to accommodate a toll booth to a modified-diamond interchange with extended ramps designed for high-speed interstate traffic. Crews will also be making improvements to Exits 1 and 2 at Fulton, bridge deck and barrier wall upgrades, as well as guardrail and drainage work all along the parkway from Fulton to Mayfield. KYTC placed an 8-ton maximum load limit on the KY 339 Felts Creek Bridge. KY 339 is restricted to an 8-ton limit at mile point 24.955 due to substructure deterioration on the Felts Creek Bridge. This is along KY 339 about 1.5 miles south of Fancy Farm between KY 1086/Rule Shack Road and Carrico Road. Truckers and farmers should avoid crossing the bridge with loads in excess of 16,000 pounds. Inspectors noted that box beams that support the bridge deck showed substantial deterioration since the last detailed inspection. KYTC engineers will review the inspection report and check the bridge to determine if it can be repaired or should be replaced. On some maps Felt Creek is referred to as Barnes Creek.
KYTC says KY 97 will be down to one lane at mile point 0.97 to allow deck overlay and maintenance work on the Terrapin Branch Bridge starting Monday, March 27. The target completion date is April 28. This will include an 11-foot maximum load width. The bridge is along KY 97, slightly less than a mile north of the Kentucky-Tennessee state line. Trucks hauling loads wider than the 11-foot restriction should fine an alternate route. Passenger vehicles may self-detour via KY 1270, KY 895 and KY 94. Two more bridges that are part of the contract will be scheduled at a later date.
KYTC ordered the closure of a bridge on Poyners Chapel Road in southwestern Graves County due to the condition of the bridge support structure. This is along Poyners Chapel Road about 8/10ths of a mile west of KY 303/Cuba Road. They said an inspection of the bridge found issues with the bridge structure. The bridge will remain closed until further notice. The order was effective on Jan. 9.
KYTC and Graves Co. Road Dept. closed Martin Road at the Obion Creek Branch Bridge on Friday, April 3. It was closed after an inspection found additional deterioration of the bridge substructure. Martin Road (County Road 1214) runs between KY 303 and KY 83 just south of the Cuba community. The bridge is near the south end of Martin Road at mile point 0.5. The bridge is closed until further notice. This will likely be a long-term closure.

Marshall County
KY 2606/Jackson School Road was closed on Thursday, March 30 between KY 348/Symsonia Highway and KY 408/Oak Level Road and immediately south of Brezeel School Road. KYTC said the closure is because a culvert is damaged. It’s believed recent heavy rains is the cause. KYTC said the culvert has to be replaced and the road will remain closed until further notice. There is no marked detour, but drivers can self-detour via KY 348/Symsonia Hwy, KY 1558/Ivey Road, and KY 408/Oak Level Road. Local access will be maintained for property owners on each side of the closure point.
KYTC closed a section of KY 2603/Vanzora Road at the Soldier Creek Bridge on Monday, March 6 after inspectors found deterioration of the bridge structure. The bridge had previously been restricted to a 10-ton load limit. Damage to the multi-span timber pile structure indicated loads that exceeded that limit had been crossing the bridge. While inspectors were on site, several loaded semi trucks crossed the bridge. They said scour issues from recent heavy rainfall also contributed to the structural issue. The Soldier Creek Bridge is closed to all traffic and barricaded until further notice. A project to build a new bridge at this site is on the KYTC bid schedule for this spring. However, a successful bid would mean construction would not likely start until mid-summer.

KY 305/Cairo Road and KY 998/Olivet Church Road, just west of Interstate 24 Paducah, will reopen on Monday, April 3. Traffic configuration change at Exit 3 is expected to take place by about Noon on Monday. Passenger vehicles and trucks exiting I-24 will be forced to make a right turn only at the ramps, then travel to a point where they can find a safe turn-around to return through the interchange in the desired direction. This traffic configuration is expected to be in place for approximately three weeks. Traffic will temporarily return to normal during Quilt Show Week April 26 through April 29. Work to replace pavement along KY 305 through the interchange will then resume on May 1, with traffic shifted from time to time along KY 305 to allow work to continue while traffic flow is maintained.
