FRANKLIN-WILLIAMSON COUNTIES, Ill. (KFVS) - The Franklin-Williamson Bi-County Health Department reports 60 new cases of COVID-19, as of Friday, July 30.

A summary of the cases includes:

Williamson County

  • New cases - 36
  • Total cases - 8,464
  • Total deaths - 131

Franklin County

  • New cases 24
  • Total cases - 5,067
  • Total deaths - 71

Officials say they’ve seen their highest number of COVID-19 cases in one day since the winter, that number is 93 cases.

Brent Gentry, Williamson County commissioner, said he spoke with the Illinois Department of Public Health on Friday morning.

He said some additional health changes will be coming soon.

“What I know for sure is the state is starting their mitigation,” Gentry said. “We’re sitting now at 9 percent positivity rate. So they take the metrics, they take it versus the hospitalizations, and they put all that formula together and they’re going to start making restrictions very, very soon. And that’s sad.”

Almost all of southern Illinois besides Randolph, Pope and Hardin counties are in the orange warning level, meaning an increased COVID-19 risk in the county.
