MARION, Ill. (KFVS) - The Boys & Girls Clubs of Southern Illinois (BGCSI) is set to announce the addition of the Marion Unit on Tuesday, April 6.

The announcement will be made during a news conference at 11 a.m. at the future location of the Marion Unit.

A fundraising campaign for renovations and operations will also be revealed at the event.

The organization hopes to open the new location on June 7 in time for summer programs.

Members of BGCSI and Marion Mayor Michael Absher will be attending the announcement.

According to BGCSI Chief Executive Officer Tina Carpenter there is a great need for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Southern Illinois throughout communities in the region, including in Marion and Williamson County.

Currently there are four BGCSI locations in Carbondale: the main site on North Springer Street, Rebound Alternative High School, Carbondale Middle School and Lewis School.

BGCSI reports serving more the 10,000 youth since 2004.

The mission of the Boys and Girls Clubs is “to enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens.”
