ISP: Car crashed head-on into SEMI on Rte. 3 in Alexander County

ALEXANDER COUNTY, Ill. (KFVS) - Emergency crews responded to a two-vehicle crash in Alexander County on Monday morning, March 22.

The crash happened two miles south of Olive Branch on Route 3.

According to Illinois State Police (ISP), a car crossed the center line on the roadway and hit a SEMI tractor-trailer head-on.

The SEMI then went into a ditch on the side of the road.

Crews are working to pull the rig out.

ISP said the driver of the car was transported to an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The SEMI driver was not hurt.

Shortly after the crash, both lanes of Rte. 3 at the Route 127 and Rte. 3 intersection were closed to traffic.

The Olive Branch Volunteer Fire Department rerouted traffic off of Rte. 3 to Railroad Street.

One lane of Rte. has been reopened to traffic, with flaggers directing drivers.
