CARLISLE COUNTY, Ky. (KFVS) - A ribbon cutting will be held at the site of a new drug incinerator on March 16.
The event will be at 1 p.m. behind the Carlisle County EMS Building on John Roberts Drive in Bardwell, Ky. It will include a demonstration.
The Mediburn 30 Drug Incinerator was bought through a partnership with the Purchase District Health Department, Carlisle County Sheriff’s Department and the Carlisle County Fiscal Court.
It’s available for use by local area law enforcement departments, EMS and other public sector organizations, pending a formal agreement.
National Prescription Drug Take Back Day is April 24. Residents can dispose of any unused prescription medications in a Drug Take Back Box or at a Drug Take Back Event in the county. The collected medications will be incinerated in the new Mediburn 30.
During the October 2020 National Prescription Drug Take Back Day, a total of 985,392 pounds was collected, while it may have included materials other than prescription drugs.
The Purchase District Health Department is asking the public to not dispose of syringes in the drug take back boxes, but to instead put them inside of a heavy-gauge plastic bottle, such as a laundry detergent bottle, but the cap on and tape it onto the bottle.
