Southeast Missouri State University president under quarantine, will miss Fall 2020 Commencement

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (KFVS) - Southeast Missouri State University’s (SEMO) president, Carlos Vargas-Aburto will miss the Fall 2020 Commencement due to being in quarantine.

Provost Mike Godard and other academic officials will preside over the commencement.

According to the university, President Vargas-Aburto came in close contact over the weekend with someone who tested positive for COVID-19, he currently has no symptoms.

He will work remotely.

Dr. Vargas, Southeast Missouri State University President, is following Protect the Nest guidelines and under quarantine due to close contact with someone who tested positive for COVID-19. He has no symptoms and is working remotely. Unfortunately, this means Dr. Vargas will not be attending Fall 2020 Commencement. He is as disappointed as we know our graduates will be.
