SIKESTON, Mo. (KFVS) - A 15 year old was hospitalized following a shooting in Sikeston on Wednesday afternoon.
The shooting happened just after 3 p.m. in a parking lot near some apartments in the 100 block of Lashmet St.
According to Sikeston Department of Public Safety Chief Jim McMillen, two 16 year olds met to fist fight over a female.
During the fight, a 15 year old pulled out a handgun and fired several rounds into a crowd of about 20 juveniles watching the fight.
Chief McMillen said this is when a 15-year-old bystander was hit by a bullet.
EMS crews took the victim to a Cape Girardeau hospital and later transferred to a St. Louis trauma center, where he is in stable condition.
Chief McMillen said witness information helped with the investigation.
The shooting suspect was taken into custody.
