Officers were called around 2:30 a.m. on Thursday, October 1, to a home in reference to a shooting.
When they arrived, officers found a man unresponsive with a gunshot wound.
The man later died at the home.
He was identified as Donta Lamar Grissom.
Police said the shooting suspect was still at the home when officers arrived. He was identified as George Dawson.
Investigators say Dawson claimed he was taking medication for Post Traumatic Stress Disorder he received when he deployed to Afghanistan. He told them he was unsure if he was taking his medication properly.
According to court documents, witnesses told investigators Grissom was not threatening Dawson in any way.
However, Dawson told officers Grissom threatened him with a pipe and plotted with others behind his back, sometimes using some sort of code.
