CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (KFVS) - Around 10:30 p.m., on July 4, a Cape Girardeau home caught fire.
The home is located on the 1100 block of Dorothy street.
The Cape Girardeau Fire Department responded with 4 engines, 1 Ladder and 1 Battalion Chief; mutual aid was provided by Jackson, Scott City and Gordonville fire departments sending 1 engine from each department.
Units arrived to find moderate fire in a front bedroom with fire extension into the attic and neighboring rooms.
Witnesses said they heard a commotion and when they looked outside, there were flames rising out of the home.
The fire was contained in about 15 minutes and units were on scene performing overhaul by removing burnt debris and checking for hidden fires for an additional hour and half.
After a search of the building it was determined to be unoccupied and no civilians or firefighters were injured.
One family was displaced by the fire with moderate damage to the building and contents.
It is unknown what caused the fire at this time.
The fire was suspicious in nature and is under investigation.
