Fire damages home in Union County, Ill.
UNION COUNTY, Ill. (KFVS) - A fire damaged a home in Union County, Ill. on Sunday, Feb. 16.
Fire crews were called out to a home on Stone Road between Ware and Jonesboro around 2:15 p.m.
No one was injured in the fire.
Firefighters with the Wolflake-Ware Fire Protection District said nine pets died due to smoke inhalation.
There were five kittens, 2 dogs and two cats in the home at the time.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
Jason Stegle with the Wolflake-Ware Fire Protection District said this is a reminder to be careful during the winter months.
“We are going from cold weather to warm weather to cold weather to warm weather, make sure furnaces are in check, ventless heaters nothing in front of them, propane is turned off and when needed," Stegle said.
