CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (KFVS) - The public is invited to attend the free activities at Fort D in Cape Girardeau on Labor Day, Sept. 2.
Events begin at 9 a.m. and run until 3 p.m.
Fort workers will be preparing for the fall and celebrating the addition of Fort D to the National Register of Historic Places.
Many people in the area came out to enjoy live music, a raffle, cannon demonstrations, cake, and more.
Scott House with Turner Brigade of Missouri Volunteer said Fort D deserves every bit of recognition.
“It’s very rewarding to see a site like this that’s so important and has been so forgotten over time that in the last 10 -12 years it has come back to be a place that’s exciting for people to come to,” House said.
Refreshments were served following the salute to Fort D at 11 a.m.
