Investigation underway, fire contained to one room at facility in Cape Girardeau, Mo.

Fire under investigation in Cape Girardeau

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (KFVS) - The state fire marshal was called in to investigate a fire at an assisted living facility in Cape Girardeau, Missouri.

No residents were hurt.

Crews were called just after 7:15 p.m. to Maple Crest Manor an assisted living facility in the 400 block of N. Frederick on Sunday evening, September 1.

When crews arrived there was light smoke showing from the front of the structure. The fire was on the first floor.

According to the fire department, the fire sprinkler system mostly contained the small fire to a single bedroom on the first floor before crews arrived.

The fire was put out within 10 minutes.

The estimated loss is $10,000 with light fire and smoke damage.

There were working smoke detectors in the building.

According to the fire department, Maple Crest has fire drills and it worked well for them. The residents were out of the building and accounted for before crews arrived.
