St. Louis, Mo. (KFVS) - The St. Louis Cardinals learned Monday following an MRI examination on the right elbow of relief pitcher Jordan Hicks, that he had a torn ulnar collateral ligament. The team has announced Hicks will undergo Tommy John Surgery on Wednesday.
The 22-year old Hicks was removed from Saturday’s game against the Angels in the 9th inning after he pitched 1.1 innings.
Hicks is 2-2 this season with a 3.14 ERA and a team-leading 14 saves in 29 games.
Carlos Martinez is the likely candidate to assume the closer role.
