SCOTT COUNTY, Mo. (KFVS) - One person is dead and four people were injured in a crash on I-55 in Scott County, Mo. on Jun 18.

According to MSHP, at 3:50 p.m. Kevin Potts, 58, of Mounds, Ill., was traveling north when his vehicle left I-55 for unknown reasons and crossed the median. Potts’ vehicle continued into the southbound lanes and hit a vehicle driven by Jacqueline Wallace, 62, of East Prairie, Mo. causing minor damage.

A vehicle driven by Terrica Kershaw, 31, of Cape Girardeau, Mo. was unable to stop and hit the side of Potts’ vehicle.

Potts was declared dead at the scene by the Scott County Coroner. Kershaw and her two juvenile passengers were taken to Saint Francis Medical Center. Wallace was not injured.

Southbound lanes of I-55 were blocked at the 72-mile marker after the crash. Traffic was diverted.

The investigation into the crash is ongoing.

I-55 has been a detour for many drivers trying to get from Illinois to Cape Girardeau.
