Corrections officer assaulted

CHARLESTON, Mo. (KFVS) - A correctional officer was taken to a hospital after being hit in head by an inmate at Southeast Correctional Center in Charleston, Missouri on Thursday, June 6.

According to a spokesperson with the Missouri Department of Corrections, the inmate hit the officer in the head and face and the officer fell back before hitting his head on a pole.

The officer was taken by ambulance to an area hospital and then airlifted to a regional hospital for treatment. This was done as a precaution because there was a chance he had serious head injury. However, CAT scan tests showed he did not receive a serious injury.

The officer was released and returned home to rest.

The inmate will face charges.
