MAYFIELD, Ky. (KFVS) - Police are warning residents of another phone scam.
On Tuesday, May 14, police say they learned of someone contacting residents and telling them about a fraudulent charge or criminal proceeding. They say the scammers claim that if the victim will turn over money to them, they will take care of the issue.
The scammers tell the victim to buy different cards, like Google Play for example, and take them to a designated location to turn them over.
Police say they called the number used back and it rang to a fake answering service claiming to be the Graves County Sheriff’s Office.
They say this was not the local sheriff’s number or service.
