LYON COUNTY, Ky. (KFVS) - All lanes of Interstate 24 in Lyon County, Kentucky are open, according to Kentucky Transportation Cabinet officials.
Kentucky State Police officials confirmed that one person died and multiple were injured.
State Police said they got the call about the crash around 5:30 a.m. They said the crash was at the 41 mile marker.
An investigation showed that 30-year-old Kyle W. Ellis of Vergennes, Illinois was driving a 2007 Freightliner Recreational Vehicle pulling an enclosed car trailer
State Police said for an unknown reason Ellis ran off into the median. Ellis then over-corrected the vehicle and pulled back into the eastbound lanes of traffic, before striking an embankment and overturning.
Police said Ellis was pronounced dead on the scene by the Lyon County coroner.
Michael W. Herring, 27 also of Vergennes, Ill. was taken to Vanderbilt Medical Center for his injuries.
Donald W. Ellis, 49 also of Vergennes, Ill. Was taken to eventually flown to a Nashville hospital.
Nicki J. Meadows, 28 of Du Quoin, Ill. was taken by ambulance to a Kentucky hospital.
As of 10:10 a.m. officials said eastbound traffic is moving at about 10 miles per hour. There is still a substantial back up at the Eddyville-Kuttawa Exit 40 Interchange.
The crash was in the eastbound lanes between the US 62 Exit 40- Interchange and the I-24/I-69 Exit 43 Interchange.
Trooper Derek Scott is continuing his investigation into the collision.
