More people expected to travel for Memorial Day 2019

(KFVS) - If you plan on hitting the road to kick off Memorial Day you’re not alone.

Reports from TripAdvisor and AAA say the percent of people traveling for the unofficial start of summer is up this year.

According to a TripAdvisor survey of more than 3,500 U.S. respondents, people planning to travel for the holiday is up six percent.

The percentage of people traveling is at 36 percent for the holiday weekend. According to TripAdvisor’s information has prices will be on average $2.86 per gallon. That’s about the same as prices in 2018 which were $2.87 per gallon.

AAA’s travel forecast said the majority of travelers will use automobiles. About 37.6 million will hit the road. Other forms of travel people plan to use are planes, trains, buses and cruise ships. 25 million people plan to travel by plane and 1.9 travelers will use the other forms of transportation.

AAA officials also said hotel and car rental costs will be less than in past years.

The top Memorial Day destinations for 2019 are Orlando, New York and Las Vegas.
