Ky. gov. orders flags at half-staff in honor of soldier killed in Syria

FRANKFORT, Ky. (KFVS) - Kentucky Gov. Matt Bevin has directed that U.S. and Commonwealth flags at all state office buildings be lowered to half-staff on Thursday, May 16 in honor of a Fort Campbell soldier killed in Syria.

Pfc. Michael Thomason, 28, of Lincoln Park, Michigan died on April 29 after a non-combat incident.

The soldier was taking part in Operation Inherent Resolve. Pfc. Thomason was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 327th Infantry, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault).

The funeral service will be Thursday, May 16 is taking place in Michigan.
