ILLINOIS (KFVS) - The Regional Office of Education (ROE) #21 received payment for the Williamson and Franklin County school facility sales tax on Monday, May 14. The amount reflects sale in February.
Funds for Williamson County totaled $481,718.09 and Franklin County totaled $156,522.90. Since July 2008, Williamson County schools have received over $70 million and Franklin County schools received over $16 million.
School districts may use these funds on building construction and maintenance items, but not on teacher salaries and operating funds. Many of these funded projects provided construction jobs and helped to maintain the local economy.
As state law directs ROE is to distribute these funds and allows them to be held in their accounts for up to thirty days and collect interest. This interest is spent to provide services for the school district.
