Perryville businesses getting prepared for Missouri’s National Veterans Memorial grand opening

PERRYVILLE, MO (KFVS) - The Missouri’s National Veterans Memorial grand opening is scheduled for this weekend with events on both Saturday, May 18 and Sunday, May 19.

Perry County Heritage Tourism Director Trish Erzfeld said they plan to have anywhere from 5,000 to 10,000 visitors that weekend visiting the grand opening event.

With a large influx of visitors to the Perryille area, restaurants, hotels and other businesses are preparing and say they will be ready for to help and serve the people.

Natialie Medlock is a manager at Mary Jane Burgers & Brew. She said they are planning accordingly for this weekend by doubling the amount of staff on hand, as well as, offering new features as well.

"We always want to make sure that visitor and our local people have a great time and great experience," Medlock stated. "This way, they keep coming back. We enjoy the great business this brings to Perryville and our community."

Super 8 General Manger Thomas Farrenburg in Perryville said they are honored to be part of the community and help assist visitors as they come in for the big grand opening event.

He said it's especially important that we honor our veterans and show our appreciation for them.

"I think it's really important that we don't forget and continue to honor those that have served," Farrenburg said. "Without them, we wouldn't have the luxuries we would have today."

Farrenburg said their crew has been working to make sure everything is in place and all rooms and commodities are ready to go for the visitors coming this weekend.

"We're almost sold out for the weekend," Farrenburg stated. "The reservations started coming through quite early. I don't know if we are more excited here in the community or if the veterans coming to visit hold that excitement."

With all that Perryville has to offer, Farrenburg mentioned that this city is one that is a must to visit.

"It's extremely important here in the community to get the word out to travelers that Perryville is indeed a destination and a place to come see and visit," Farrenburg added.
