CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) - For the first time in twenty years, the Southeast Missouri State University Softball team won the OVC Championship.

SEMO needed two wins on the day to become OVC Champions.

They faced off against Jacksonville State, the two seed in the tournament.

After winning the first game in dominating fashion, the Redhawks and Gamecocks faced off for the title.

SEMO got out to a big lead before watching Jacksonville State pull within one.

Bringing in the senior Haley Thogmartin, SEMO went to the top of the seventh with a one-run lead.

With a runner on first, a fly out by the Gamecocks would be caught for an out by the Redhawks and they became the 2019 OVC Champions.

The Redhawks clinch an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. A watch party for the selection show will be held at Dogwood Social on Sunday night.
