Plastic film, plastics no longer accepted for recycling in Jackson, MO

JACKSON, MO (KFVS) - Jackson, Missouri residents may notice changes at the Recycling Center.

City officials announced the city will no longer accept plastic film and plastics.

Starting Tuesday, May 28 all plastic shopping bags, garbage bags, newspaper sleeves and other types of plastic wrappers, film and plastics (numbers 3-7) are no longer accepted in Jackson Recycling Program.

This is due to changes in the worldwide use of recyclable materials according to city officials.

The items must be places with the regular trash and placed at the curb with other non-recyclables.

Plastic containers #1 (PETE) and #2 (HDPE) like milk/juice jugs, soda/water bottles containers for condiments, cleaning supplies and shampoo will still be accepted.

The city will no longer accept yogurt cups, sour cream and cottage cheese containers, margarine and butter containers, clamshells, plastic cups, plastic cutlery as well.
