MARION, IL (KFVS) - A paddle sport event will be held on Lake Egypt on Saturday, May 18 at noon.

The Pyramid Acres Marina is organizing it and it will be held at the marina at 12057 Marina Road in Marion.

“Water sports are growing in our area because of our beautiful creeks and lakes,” Jerri Schaefer, partner/owner of Pyramid Acres Marina, said. “To bring more tourism to southern Illinois, we thought it would be a fantastic idea to team with Mack’s Marina and The Resort at Egyptian Hills to promote water sports on Lake of Egypt, which is commonly known for its amazing fishing.”

Lake of Egypt Paddle Fest is also teaming with Team River Runner, a national non-profit organization that assists disabled veterans in adaptive paddle sports.

Organizers say nearly 50 veterans with disabilities and their assistants with TRR will be participating on May 18.

They say the Illinois Department of Natural Resources will be patrolling the lake and providing a lake safety presentation to participants before take-off. Life jackets are required.
