SCOTT COUNTY, MO (KFVS) - The North Scott County Ambulance District is partnering with Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hopsital in St. Louis to help Heartland kids.
“We’re providing this service to the region to get these kids some advanced care in a more timely fashion,” said Larry Chasteen, Administrator of the North Scott County Ambulance District.
He said having this local ambulance cuts down on the time families have to wait for care.
“We can provide this service locally and get them to Cardinal Glennon in a more timely manner,” said Chasteen.
Chasteen told me one of their paramedics or EMTs will drive the truck while Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital Transport team will work in the back.
“We have the meds, we have supplies small enough for the pediatric population we have the dosages and that’s our specialty” said Nichole Bowen.
Bowen and Rebecca Trout are both on the transport team and they said they bring an expertise to the area that some hospitals may not have.
“Usually if a hospital is calling us from rural areas they aren’t familiar with peds at all, they aren’t comfortable with children at all and a lot of times they are really really sick. They are in need of immediate care. They need medicines that they may not have they don’t know how to dose they don’t know how to treat them properly,” said Bowen.
They said in the last few weeks they have had several calls to places like Southern Illinois, Poplar Bluff and Cape Girardeau.
