SPRINGFIELD, IL (KFVS) - A proposal in the Illinois Senate would lower the school age for Illinois children from 6 to 5-years-old.

According to Sen. Maj. Leader Kimberly Lightford (D-Maywood), Senate Bill 2075 was approved by the Illinois Senate on April 11.

“This proposal makes learning a habit for children across Illinois,” Sen. Lightford said. “When we get students in the classroom at an early age, especially those from underprivileged communities, they are more likely to continue their education as they grow older.”

The legislation heads to the House for approval.
