JACKSON, MO (KFVS) - Students, family and friends packed the gymnasium on Wednesday, April 17 at the Jackson High School to support 78 students in signing recognition certificates with their preferred post-secondary education representatives.
This was part of Jackson High School's annual Academic Celebration Day to honor graduating seniors who have been awarded scholarships for their outstanding academic accomplishments, along with students entering the armed forces.
Each student was called forward to sign their certificate. During this time, post-secondary admission representatives and family are invited in for a picture while they sign.
Emily Scott, a Jackson High School senior, is going to Maryville University for her education beyond high school.
"I've always been interested in doing physical therapy in pediatrics," Scott said. "They have a 6 1/2 year program. I'll go in there as a freshman. It's a direct entry program."
Scott said she has seen other students on sports scholarships have a special moment for a picture signing with their higher education representatives. She said it's nice that the school also recognizes all other students that have been awarded scholarships as well.
Scott said this is a time she can live in the moment with her family and friends and look back at the years that brought her to this point.
"It's very exciting," Scott added. "It shows that I've made a lot of progress since I've entered high school. Being able to see that and see where I'm going in life is very exciting. It's one of those cool opportunities where you get to reflect on life but you also don't know what the future holds but you know you have a lot of potential to do great things."
The colleges, universities the students intend to attend are: Missouri State University, Faulkner University, Mississippi State University, Maryville University, Murray State University, University of Kansas, University of Arizona, University of Tennessee at Martin, College of the Ozarks, Lyon College, Southern Connecticut State University, Missouri Science and Technology, Missouri S & T, Southeast Missouri State University, University of Missouri, University of Missouri - Kansas City and various armed forces branches.
