CARBONDALE, IL (KFVS) - The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs is set to hold a health care town hall and resource fair in Carbondale, Illinois.

The event will be held on the campus of Southern Illinois University-Carbondale at the Student Recreation Center Alumni Lounge on Wednesday, April 17, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

VA spokesman Kevin Harris says the event is being held to discuss the VA Mission Act of 2018. The Act is scheduled to begin this summer.

The VA hopes to gain feedback from veterans and their families about the new program about to be implemented.

Veterans not enrolled in VA health care are also invited to attend the town hall.

VA representatives will also be on hand to provide on the spot enrollment.

According to the VA, their agency is the government’s second-largest department, responsible for 9 million military veterans in more than 1,700 government-run health facilities.
