HICKMAN, KY (KFVS) - The Dorena-Hickman Ferry is closed due to rising floodwaters on the Mississippi River.

According to the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC), the river is at a level where the ferry can not operate.

Captain Jeremy Newsom said the ferry is likely to remain closed until Tuesday, April 23, based on the river forecast for the Cairo gauge.

The Dorena-Hickman Ferry connects KY 1354 at Hickman, Kentucky, with Missouri Route A and Route 77 near Dorena, Missouri.

The ferry operates from the Hickman Landing with regular river crossings during daylight hours.

The Dorena-Hickman Ferry is a key transportation link between Kentucky and Missouri because they are not directly connected by a road or bridge.

The ferry service is used by daily commuters, farmers, and tourists.
