PUXICO, MO (KFVS) - The Puxico Police Department is fundraising right now to help fund its annual Christmas toy drive. They hope to collect more than 2,000 shoes so they can help support more families this year.
“Spring cleaning what am I doing with all these shoes,” Puxico Police chief Rick Sheren said.
If this question comes to mind as you clean out your closet Chief Rick Sheren has a solution.
“They just taking up space well someone else can use them,” he said.
Sheren’s department is collecting shoes to donate to a business called Funds-2-Org.
They’ll receive 40 cents for each pound of shoes they collect. That money will then help buy Christmas presents for needy kids this holiday season.
“Both parents may be working but the day to day bills and keeping them fed they just don’t have a lot," he said.
Last year, the program helped Leslie Gross and her four children.
“To know that our community can gather together and the pull the weight of a family in need is a true blessing” she said.
She said the department’s generosity inspires her kids.
“Two of my boys actually want to grow up to be police officers so they can help children in need,” she said.
Chief Sheren said he hopes fundraisers like this help the way people perceive his officers.
“A positive impact on the community that we are there to help people and not just arrest people,” he said.
The department will be picking up shoes Saturday, April 12 in Puxico - so if you live in the area you can leave shoes on your porch or if your passing through you can leave them at local businesses .
Those local businesses include: Bill’s Market (Puxico) , Ross Mini Market (Puxico) , Lemonade House and Grill (Poplar Bluff), Dexter Cinema (Dexter), and The Juice Cafe (Poplar Bluff).
