Former concrete shop goes up in flames in Cape Girardeau

Crews battle building fire in Cape Girardeau, MO

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) - Fire crews were called to the scene of a structure fire in Cape Girardeau, Missouri.

The call came in before 6:50 p.m. on Wednesday evening, March 20. It was near the industrial area in Southside of Cape Girardeau at 408 Cooper Street.

Asst. Fire Chief Mark Hasheider says old Kasten Concrete Products building was in the process of being torn down on Wednesday.

Two battalions were called to the scene. Crews were putting out hot spots until around 8 p.m. to make sure nothing else sparked up.

The building was being torn down and salvaged at the time and there is evidence of a cutting torch being used.

The fire is believed to be accidental.

The fire department plans to check with works about ignition sources for the fire.
