ENERGY, IL (KFVS) - The winter weather the Heartland has been seeing over the past few weeks could be causing home owners issues with their gutters and houses.
Matt Choate, the owner of the Gutter Guys, in Energy, Illinois, says that they have seen an uptick in business, and are expecting more calls from people in the area due to draining issues.
He says that if gutters are not correctly installed or maintained then they will not drain properly and water build up. The water then freezes and puts extra weight on gutters and they pull loose and cause damage to the house.
He says that not only can this lead to torn up gutters, but the poor drainage can also cause damage to the foundation to a home, which could end up costing thousands in repairs.
“A lot of times what happens is people don’t maintain their gutters properly by not having guards, or not cleaning them out often enough so clean them often,” Choate said. “The best thing to do is to have them inspected, call a professional, and they can tell them what their situation is. If they need some work done, to make sure they are prepared for what could happen.”
