CARBONDALE, IL (KFVS) - As February marks Black History Month, many across the Heartland celebrate and reflect on the roles African Americans have played in shaping US history.
In celebration of Black History Month, the Southern Illinois TV Journalists and the African American Museum of Southern Illinois host its 2nd Annual Youth Media Day.
The event is free for all youth across the Heartland, specifically in 6th through 12th grade.
“Bridging the Gap Between the Youth and Young Professionals in the Media” will be held at the Carbondale African American Museum in the University Mall on Saturday, February 23, 2019 from 9:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
The event will include panel discussions with African American anchors and reporters from the local affiliate stations, SIU Carbondale PhD student and even TV production student from SUIC. In addition, there will be hands-on training with the youth, and group writing activities. Students will have the opportunity to win prizes.

Doors will open for registration at 8:30 a.m. A light breakfast and lunch will be provided.
