CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) - They are popping up every where, potholes. In some areas they are impossible to avoid so what do you do if you hit one and it damages your car?
"We’ve had several customers come in from hitting pot holes here in town,” said Glenn Lewis with Plaza Tire Service and he said he is seeing pothole damage almost daily.
Lewis said you want to check for damage but there are some things you won’t be able to check and will need a professional.
If your insurance covers pothole damage, you need to make sure that you take notes and pictures of the pothole and where it’s located before you file the claim.
It’s usually considered a single vehicle collision. As far as preventing damage from a pothole, Lewis said there isn’t much you can do.
“In the event of hitting a pothole there is not anything you can do to prevent any damage just because when you hit the pothole the damage is going to be done,” said Lewis, “just be careful in what you’re doing, I mean , looking where you’re going if you see a pothole the best thing to do is go around it if possible if not slow down before you hit the hole because it’s going to cause damage.”
