MARION, IL (KFVS) - Police in Marion have ruled the death of a man a homicide.
According to police, 62-year-old Donald R. Schultz was found deceased in his home on the 200 block of E. Marion St. at approximately 3:52 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 19.
Illinois State Police Crime Scene was contacted to process the scene at that time and the Williamson County Major Case Squad was activated.
Schultz died as a result of chopping and slicing to the head and body with a machete type weapon, according to the forensic pathologist.
An autopsy was conducted on Monday, Jan. 21 and the cause of death was ruled a homicide.
He was killed during an armed robbery on or around the Tuesday, Jan. 15.
The investigation led to the arrest of 33-year-old Ernest Alex Pulliam of rural Williamson County.
Pulliam was located in Cape Girardeau on Tuesday, Jan. 22 and was taken into custody by detectives from the Marion and Cape Girardeau Police Department.
He has been charged with three counts of first degree murder.
Pulliam is being held at the Cape Giradeau County Detention Center awaiting extradition to Illinois. His bond is set at $1,000,000.
