Ferrell projected winner in Mississippi County, MO special election for sheriff

News Sheriff-elect in Mississippi County, MO

EAST PRAIRIE, MO (KFVS) - Unofficial results are in for the special election for Sheriff of Mississippi County, Missouri.

The candidates were former Sheriff Keith Moore, Deputy Britton Ferrell, and East Prairie Police Captain Brent Douglas.

With 9 of 9 precincts counted the unofficial totals are:

  • Britton Ferrell: 1399
  • Brent Douglas: 247
  • Keith Moore: 471

Britton Ferrell has won and will serve as the sheriff-elect.

The election results will be certified on Friday, Feb. 1 at noon

Cory Hutcheson, 35, of East Prairie, pleaded guilty to wire fraud and to illegally possessing and transferring the means of identification of others, in this case mobile telephone numbers, without lawful authority, and in connection with the commission of the state felony crime of forgery. His sentencing was set for February 28, 2019.

People in Mississippi County, Missouri got a chance on January 17 to talk to candidates running to be their next sheriff.

The three candidates talked on several different topics including things like training, unfinished investigations such as the Tony Woodward case, and the recent death in the county jail.
