Man accused of shooting 2 officers pleads guilty

POPLAR BLUFF, MO (KFVS) - The man accused of shooting two officers in Poplar Bluff in July 2018 pleaded guilty on Friday, January 18.

James Odell Johnson, Jr. pleaded guilty to assaulting/resisting/impeding officers, possessing a firearm and felon in possession of a firearm.

He will be sentenced on Friday, April 19 at 11:30 a.m.

According to police, officers with the Poplar Bluff Police Department and US Marshals Service responded to an apartment on Kinzer Street in Poplar Bluff to arrest Johnson on a warrant. As they went inside, Johnson allegedly opened fire and one police detective was injured. A task force officer with the US Marshals Service was hit in his body armor.

After a short standoff, Johnson surrendered and was taken into federal custody.
