CARBONDALE, IL (KFVS) - Crews with the Illinois Department of Transportation are prepping for winter weather in southern Illinois.

Keith Miley, Dist. 9 Operations Engineer says that in preparation, they have been reviewing their labor equipment and materials.

Night shift drivers will go home early so they work efficiently on Friday night.

IDOT is at 80 percent capacity of their salt reserve with 30,000 tons of salt. That is more than they would use in a normal season.

Miley said that they have been pre-treating the roads on Thursday and will continue to do so on Friday.

He said that right now they are expecting winter weather to go on for the next three days and are prepared to work 24 hours a day during the storm if needed.

Miley reminds drivers to give their crews plenty of room to work on the highways.
