Alexander County sheriff involved in deadly crash that killed mother-in-law

ALEXANDER COUNTY, IL (KFVS) - The Illinois State Police is investigating a deadly crash involving Alexander County Sheriff David Barkett and his mother-in-law.

It happened early Wednesday morning at 1:25 at the sheriff's home on 28th Street.
According to Illinois State Police, Barkett was responding to a domestic violence call in his squad car which was parked at his mother-in-law's house next to his house.  ISP says as he backed out he hit Mary Elizabeth Burnley, 87, of Cairo.  Burnley was pronounced dead at the scene.
Burnley was an Alzheimer's patient and lived in the house next to Barkett, according to the Alexander County Sheriff's Department.
No charges have been filed.  ISP is still investigating.
