Historic Ponder House in Cape damaged in fire

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) - Cape Girardeau's historic Ponder House went up in flames Monday night. 

The three-story historic building that sits at William and Louisiana Streets is owned by Cape County Commissioner Jay Purcell who was on the scene Monday night.
Invesigators believe the blaze started in the basement, then spread up to the first and second floors.
The bed and breakfast suffered heavy damage.
No one was there at the time, and no one was hurt.
Cape Girardeau Police are helping in the investigation.
